The event was held via Zoom Cloud Meetings and was hosted by the 6th Office of Agricultural Extension and Development (NDOAE6 Chiang Mai) broadcasting from the Amora Thapae Hotel Chiang Mai, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai Province.

Participants in this seminar included the Center for Agricultural Information (OAE), ROAE1 (Chiang Mai), ROAE12 (Nakhon Sawan), NDOAE6, the 1st and 2nd Regional Agricultural Research and Development Centers, the Provincial Agricultural Offices of the 17 Northern provinces, relevant agencies, and farmer representatives. The event was driven by the Sub-working Group on Northern Data Systems and Logistics, chaired by the Director of ROAE1 (Chiang Mai), co-chaired by the Director of NDOAE6 (Chiang Mai) and the Director of ROAE2 (Phitsanulok), with the Director of ROAE12 (Nakhon Sawan) serving as Vice Chairman.

The objective of the seminar was to monitor the production situation, estimate crop yields, prepare unified data, and integrate management plans for key economic fruits in the Northern region (lychee, longan, Nam Dok Mai mango, and durian). The meeting yielded proactive recommendations for the production and marketing management of durian—a major Northern economic fruit entering the market this season—focusing on strict inspection of orchards and packing houses (Lhong) to prevent the harvesting of under-ripe or seed-borer infested durians:

Public Awareness Campaigns: Produce 30 cutout billboards to publicize surveillance, borer eradication, and the importance of harvesting fully mature durians. This includes publicizing the specific market periods for each durian variety in Uttaradit (Long, Lin, Monthong) to mitigate the risk of buyers purchasing out-of-area durians falsely claimed as local produce. Educational audio spots will also be broadcast via community public address systems through local leaders in key production areas.

Quality Inspection Teams: Deploy field inspection teams to closely monitor the quality of durians from both farmers and packing houses to ensure no under-ripe durians are harvested or distributed.

Furthermore, the Director of ROAE2 provided additional recommendations to support operational management tasks:

Provincial Agricultural Offices: Should supervise and track the implementation of local measures by District Agricultural Offices, focusing on publicizing knowledge about durian borer prevention and deploying durian quality inspection teams for all farmers, including large-scale and smallholder farmers.

Provincial Commercial Offices (in coordination with District Agricultural Offices):

Conduct random inspections and strictly instruct packing houses against purchasing under-ripe or borer-infested durians for distribution outside the area, thereby preserving the brand image of Uttaradit durian as a key production source.

Drive the implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) standards to promote certified durians and support the use of QR codes to foster a traceability system.

Coordinate with the central Ministry of Commerce to establish strict penalties and rigorously enforce legal violations, such as under the Prices of Goods and Services Act or consumer fraud charges.

Management of Off-Grade Durians:

Under-ripe durians: Divert them to processing plants.

Borer-infested durians: If the damage is minor (e.g., rind-boring or partial flesh damage), they can be sold on social media, provided the exact fruit condition is clearly stated so that buyers are aware and accept the terms, preventing return claims. However, if the borer damage causes rot or total spoilage, they must be destroyed or buried.

Photo / News: Public Relations Working Group, ROAE2 (Phitsanulok)

[50
309,313,317,315,307,311
post-8485","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ceo-en","tag-nan","tag-phitsanulok","tag-phrae","tag-sukhothai","tag-tak","tag-uttaradit
["GET
